Originally built around the Aulps Abbey, Saint Jean d’Aulps is a charming alpine village which boosts an amazing range of winter and summer activities. The cable car takes walkers and mountain-bikers to 1,500m, where they can enjoy unspoilt routes amid the foothills of the Roc d’Enfer, with panoramic view of Mont Blanc and the Dents du Midi.
The impressive ‘Elephant Head’ rock which can be seen from the village is popular with climbers.
In the village centre, there are bars, restaurants, boulangerie and also a tourist office.
Skiing in Saint Jean d’Aulps – part of Portes du Soleil
The local ski area, La Grande Terche, also known as “Espace Roc d’Enfer”, is a hidden gem popular with locals on powder days or to avoid the crowds in peak season.
It covers 50km of pistes in a beautiful and unspoilt setting, including a large amount of off-piste terrain. As it is relatively unknown to many visitors, the pistes tend to remain quiet even during the busiest weeks of the season. You will also find a number of great restaurants, including La Licorne.
The resort is covered by the Portes du Soleil ski pass and there is a regular shuttle service that takes you to the other bigger ski resorts.
